HMI Introduction for RTI

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling is the premier mountaineering Institute of the country. It was established in November 1954 after the first successful ascent of Mt. Everest by late Tenzing Norgay & Sir Edmund Hillary. Establishment of HMI paved the way for mountaineering to be treated as an organized form of sport in the country. Thus, the Institute has played a pivotal role in promotion of mountaineering in India and bringing the country in the ambit of global mountaineering map. Late Tenzing Norgay was the first Director of Field Training while the legendry Indian mountaineer Late Major ND Jayal was its first Principal Functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence and headed by the officers of Indian Armed Forces the Institute has always maintained distinct and democratic process in terms of its training and administration. Transparency has always been the buzzword in day-to-day functioning of HMI. As mandated by RTI Act 2005. HMI has been making all the information open to public scrutiny and as and when such applications are received under RTI or otherwise, they are promptly replied on the basis on available information.
