“Come on let's explore beyond adventure”

Advance course qualified trainees with ‘A’ - Grade who wish to pursue mountaineering as a career are admitted to this 28-day duration course. The objective of the course is to improve the instructional capabilities of the participants to enable them to impart mountaineering lessons confidently and also act as a guide. The capacity of the Method of Instruction course is 20 students.

Day by Day Schedule

DAY ACTIVITIES
DAY 01st HMI CAMPUS:

Cleaning / Layout of Hostel | Physical Training | Distribution of Ropes | Administrative talk | Visit HMI campus and Museum | Opening Address | Issue of Equipments & Medical inspections | Self introduction by trainees | Rope knots / Friction Hitch | Training film and Own time.

2nd-7th TENZING ROCK & HMI CAMPUS: lecture/demonstration/practice

Cleaning / Layout of Hostel | Physical Training | Map Reading – I | First Aid – I | Map Reading – II, First Aid – II, Lecture on GPS and Radio set | Display of various stretchers, Making of improvised stretcher | Helicopter rescue demo,| Characteristics of Helicopter and marking of Helipad |Practice of  rock craft | Advance rescue technique on Rock (L/D/P) | Lecture on Weather and clouds |Trekking and navigation exercises | Valdutain and Jumaring | River crossing (L/D/P) at Singla | Exchange of Equipments  | Briefing on purchase of necessary items for mountain | Outing | Briefing and deposit of personal valuable items | Training film/Library/Own time.

8th MOVE TO YUKSAM – 1850MT, WEST SIKKIM:

Cleaning and Layout of Hostel | Deposition of leftover items at hostel | Loading of rucksack on vehicles | Assemble and Move to Yuksam by Vehicles.

9th & 10th MOVE TO TSHOKA – 10,000FT APPROX

Trek to Tshoka | Establishment of Camp | Acclimatisation walk up to 11,000ft | Rescue Exercise and Own time.

11th MOVE TO DZONGRI – 13,220FT

Trek to Dzongri | Establishment of Camp | Acclimatisation walk to Dzongri top.

12th MOVE TO BASECAMP (CHOWRIKHANG) – 14,600FT, WEST SIKKIM:
13th– 17th LECTURE DEMO AND PRACTICE ON ROCK, SNOW & ICE CRAFT AND RESCUE TECHNIQUES  – Base Camp & Rathong Glacier

Acclimatisation walk | Surrounding peaks and revision of mountain terminology (L) | Issue of equipments |Hyperbaric chamber including  Pulse Oxymeter and supplementary oxygen | CPR,  Administering Life saving injection | Bandaging | Ice Climbing Practice | Anchor Base – Ice & Snow | Jumar Climbing | Crevasse rescue | High altitude cooking and survival night | Casualty evacuation through Suspension and Tyrolean traverse | Practice of Distress signal and Helicopter rescue demo in mountainous region | Navigation and rescue exercises (day & night).

18th Trek to Tshoka: Establishment of Camp
19th Trek to Yuksam: Casualty evacuation from Pah Khola (1st bridge from Yuksam) – to Camping site at Yuksam |  Lunch at Yuksam | Move to HMI by Vehicles
20th HMI CAMPUS:

Written Test, Equipment returns, Principal Interview, Graduation Practice & Graduation Ceremony .
